Dear brother’s Sisters in Christ, welcome to the cross. Welcome to Lent. Today Jesus allows Himself to be tempted by the devil, just as He also allows us to be tempted many times during our daily lives. Why is this so, we may ask ourselves. Well Jesus Our Saviour permits these trials, tribulations and crosses to allow us to practice living the life of virtue towards the path of holiness. 

We are fast approaching the passion and death of Our Savior Lord Jesus Christ. We will be putting on ashes next Wednesday to profess our faith and to “Remember, you are dust and to dust you will return.”. We are desperate to put on the light of Christ to drive away the devil and his demons. It is interesting today, on the Gospel account, as perhaps a continuation of last week’s theme that must not allow ourselves to be choked as we mentioned last week with the parable of the sower, with our passions, the devil and the world.

At the Dundee Afternoon for Life, we hear about the History of the Helper's of God's Precious Infants and how they were founded by Msr Philip Rielly after finally listening to God. We listen also to the amazing events of 9/11 when the only thing that seemed to continue to work in the vicinity of the Twin Towers, was the abortion mill. Where can we found the modern day Calvary and "Ground-Zero" if not today at these centres of death.

At the Dundee for Life Afternoon 22nd February 2020, with the presence of Bishop Stephen Robson, we hear of the latest developments by the Culture of Death to introduce Assisted Suicide in Law, the new definition of "Brain Death", Lady Black and new definition for "basic" health care nutrition and hydration, and the covert way the government has now introduced an "Opt Out" system by default for Organ Donation.

How many times, have we heard today’s Parable of the Sower, preached by Jesus in the boat on the shores of the lake in Galilee and yet we fail to listen and understand what we must do. We even have a Divine explanation of the parable itself in the Holy Scripture when Jesus Our Lord Himself explains the mystery to be embraced to those with good will and an open heart.

We must always be thankful to God for all the graces and gifts he lavishes upon us. Isn’t it amazing that the Lord knew from all eternity that we would all be gathered here to participate in the Offering of the Holy Mass of the Ages in the Extra-ordinary Form here at Bournemouth on this passage towards the Passion and Resurrection of Jesus Christ on this Septuagesima Sunday?

Today we celebrate both the Presentation of Jesus in the Temple and the Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary. She was obedient to the Mosaic Law even though She is Immaculate and She brings us the light of the world for our salvation.

Jesus speaks to the Scribe about the two great commandments. The parable of the Prodigal son shows us the mercy of the Samaritan who showed mercy. Jesus gives this delicate lesson that we must above all have Charity for souls. Jesus is thee Good Samaritan and the inflicted soul is Adam. Jesus comes to heal our wounds.

We hear today on this 8th Sunday after Pentecost, of the need as a penitent to make amends or Restitution for something you have stolen. The Lord forgives you in the Sacrament of Penance but we still must give back what we have stolen as a means of Justice. We must give justice to our neighbour and to render to God what belongs to Him.

God looks after Mankind. The Universe is not governed by chance or by fate. God controls the nature of things and maintains order. Don Dolindo speaks of the Miracle of the Loaves. The preaching of Jesus raises the people onto a supernatural level. Every word is a dart of peace and love from Jesus.

Jesus calls the Apostles to make them "Fishers of men". We notice that this was the second call of Jesus. He will provide from now on. Peter is rewarded with his prompt obedience by a large catch. We must make an act of Trust in Jesus Christ Our Saviour. Jesus Crucified in the answer for all our woes.

Blessed Mary Martinengo Martinengo was a great example of Profound Humility. Her responsibilities in the convent varied from portress to Novice Mistress, and eventually superior of the convent. In order to fully imitate her foundress, St. Clare of Assisi, Mary distinguished herself in modesty, patience and obedience. She had a great devotion to the Passion of Our Lord, and the climax of every day for her were her numerous visits to the Blessed Sacrament. God rewarded her with the gifts of miracles and prophecy.

Today we celebrate a double header of Feasts and in fact two Martyrs, St.Laurence and St.Philomena. We learn that to give your life for Christ is not an easy task, but is a gift through God's grace. Let us correspond like these two great examples today, and like the brave soul who was killed for the Faith with the Coptic Christians just a few years ago.

Today we celebrate the wonderful Feast of the Divine Maternity of Mary Our Mother. Just a Jesus is the King of Justice, then Mary Immaculate is the Queen of Mercy. She is the gate of heaven and holds the keys of Salvation for Mankind. All privileges point to the Motherhood of God. We pray today that there maybe a 5th Marian Dogma to remove the current cloud of confusion hanging over Mother Church.
