“We must look upon Mary as an accomplished model of every virtue and perfection that the Holy Spirit has fashioned in any simple creature. We will then be able to imitate her in the way suitable to each of us.”
St. Louis Grignion de Montfort - True Devotion to Mary.

Father Serafino Homily 23-06-2018

This is the Vigil of the great St. John the Baptist. How many other Saints in the Catholic Church do we celebrate their birth ??? Father Serafino makes a very important analogy between the "Annunciation" to Zechariah and the the Blessed Virgin Mary. What was the main difference in their response to the question of the Angel.

Father Pio Homily 24-06-2018

Father Pio tells us about striving to be a witness for Christ by asking for the beautiful virtue and gift of Fortitude. John the Baptist was born through the intercession of God to Zachariah and Elizabeth, who was otherwise too old to bear children. He lived such an austere life and was the Precursor of Jesus and the last Old Testament Prophet.

Father Serafino Homily 24-06-2018

John baptises Jesus in the River Jordan sanctifying the waters to be instituted in the Sacrament of Baptism.  John says about Jesus - "This is the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world". See the importance of the cross. Baptism is fulfilled by the Redemption at Calvary. There is no Christian life with Baptism only but we must embrace our Cross.

"Those who have great devotion to Mary not only will be saved, but also will, through her intercession, become great Saints. Furthermore, their holiness will grow from day to day".
Saint Vincent Pallotti (1795 - 1850)

Latest Homilies from St. Mary's Gosport

Father George Homily 16-06-2018

Father George tells us about the wonderful Eucharistic Book - "In Sinu Jesu". In 2007, Our Lord and Our Lady began to speak to the heart of a monk in the silence of adoration. He was prompted to write down what he received, and thus was born In Sinu Jesu, whose pages shine with an intense luminosity and heart-warming fervour for our troubled times today.

Father Pio Homily 17-06-2018

This Sunday, the Gospel tells us that God makes use of what is little and insignificant to save souls. What about the Apostles. These "illiterate" men were chosen as the instruments on God's Salvation. What about us ??? We need to be little children and go forth as such instruments to give witness to the truth. the gate of heaven is low down so we must bend our knees to enter paradise.

Father George Homily 17-06-2018

It is the knowledge of our nothingness that leads us to have total trust in God. The Lord is my light and our salvation. The Lord is with us in the Blessed Sacrament and comes to my wretched self in Holy Communion. Save Us O Lord and pardon our sins. Help us Lord Our Saviour with your divine grace. We must start anew each day in this pilgrimage of life and have trust in Jesus Christ.

Holy Mass Latin 17-06-2018

The Mass is the sacrifice of Calvary made present on our altars in an un-bloody manner(Council of Trent). Therefore, as the pre-eminent Liturgy of the Church, it is of utmost importance that its celebration by regulated liturgical law. All the prayers, ceremonies, laws and customs that have developed organically over time exist to guarantee its stabile and unchanging quality.

"Devotion to the Blessed Virgin in no way detracts from the Glory of God. Rather, it leads us directly back to that Author of all good, Who has willed her to be so great and so pure"
Pope Pius Xll

Latest Homilies from St. Mary's Gosport

Father Serafino Homily 09-06-2018

Today we celebrate the traslation of the body of St. Edmund of Abingdon who is a patron of the Portsmouth Diocese with the Immaculate Conception. He was the Archbishop of Canterbury who fought to keep the independence of the Church against the pressure from Henry III. He was a great scholar lecturing at Oxford and Paris. He made a beautiful Vow of Chastity to Mary. He had 2 rings, one for Mary and one for Himself.

Father Serafino Homily 10-06-2018

This Sunday, the Gospel tells us two main points. The Pharisees were looking to underline the Messiahship of Jesus, saying that Jesus is possessed by the Devil. But how can someone be split and be divided. Then surely it would fall. Only God is at Work in the Person of Jesus Christ. Jesus is the true Messiah sent by the Father. Mary came to see Jesus not with brothers and sisters but the word in Greek can be translated as "Brethren".

Father Pio Homily 10-06-2018

In the Gospel we get the impression that Jesus retired after a whole days work of healing people. He desired to have a meal with His Disciples but there was no time. Jesus is full of compassion and responds. His Family think he is "crazy". The Pharisees have hatred against Jesus because they do not believe that Jesus is the Messiah. We must be humble and avoid any wilful blasphemes. Jesus speaks to His Relatives about the will of God.

Father George Homily 10-06-2018

Father George tells us to - “Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in time of visitation; cast all your anxiety upon him, because he cares for you.” I Pt. 5: 6. Those who humble themselves before God are confident that God’s “mighty hand” will sustain them because He cares for all who trust Him. We see more Joy in Heaven for one sinner returning than 99 souls already justified.

" O happy confidence! O perfect refuge! The Mother of God is my Mother. What firm trust we should have, then, since our salvation depends on the judgement of a good brother and a tender Mother."
Saint Anselm of Canterbury ( 1033 - 1109)
